The conservatives and Christian nationalists are making big noises now that they have former President Trump coming back into office. However, unless they plan to completely subvert the Constitution, they are a bit limited on just what they can accomplish.
To begin with, our nation was not founded on conservatism. The founding fathers were liberals who wanted to break away from the conservative government in England. Although most may have been Christian, a large number were Deists believing only in one God and not in the Trinity.
They intentionally wrote the Constitution and the First Amendment in such a way that no single religion could be ordained by the government. This again goes against the rule in England and in many of the European nations at the time.
Our nation remained a single unified nation after the Civil War. Again, liberals were the people who ended slavery in the US. The southern conservatives main point in seceding from the U.S. was slavery disguised in “states rights” language.

Liberal futuristic ideas have given us the automobile, electricity, airplanes, and many other things that conservatism would have denied. And we can see in Iran, Afghanistan, and other nations just how people live under religious nationalism.
